THE ANTIOQUIA´S HISTORY

The story goes that on the arrival of the Spanish in America , what is now known as the Antiochian territory was inhabited by various indigenous tribes such as Katíos , Nutabes , Cots, Tahamíes and Quimbayas , mostly belonging to the great family Caribbean .

But things were not so easy for the Spanish , as the area was difficult : The Indians had poisoned arrows and Spanish feed a population accept that only wanted gold. To disease , hunger and arrows , Spanish number was greatly reduced . Desperate to deal with these situations , accepted the idea , suggested by a soldier who knew the place and had been hiding in the expedition, to move across the gulf, the Darien. There in late 1510, after seizing the indigenous people, founded Santa Maria de la Antigua del Darien. Surrounded by Indians without arrows or poisons and good farmers , was best choice to become a base for exploring the neighboring regions of the country.

The years passed and the Spanish were taking over the territories inhabited by indigenous tribes . In 1541 , a group of people led by Jerónimo Luis Tejelo , mate Mariscal Robledo , rose the central mountain range and found the Aburrá Valley , where all the Spanish followed . The Indians fought the invaders decisively with darts , batons and tiraderas . Many of them committed suicide by hanging himself with blankets to avoid falling under the rule of the Spanish , or just by terror.
